Surgical Treatment of Localised Renal Cancer
نویسندگان
چکیده
The management of localised renal cancer has been revolutionised with the introduction of laparoscopy and minimally invasive techniques, achieving comparable oncologic results and reduced morbidity. With the detection rate of small renal lesions increasing, the diagnostic approach and surgical treatment shift to nephron-sparing surgery and less invasive techniques. Today, open partial nephrectomy (OPN), laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN), radiofrequency ablation, and cryotherapy are treatment options. Comparing OPN and LPN, multicentre studies have shown equivalent cancer-specific survival rates. Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy seems to have an advantage with regard to decreased ischemia time compared to conventional laparoscopy. OPN and LPN are now preferred treatment options for the surgical treatment of smaller renal lesions (<7 cm). With increasing experience in minimally invasive techniques, the laparoscopic and robotic approaches are becoming the preferred techniques in specialised centres. Promising novel augmented reality tracking systems may further improve the surgical and oncologic outcome of laparoscopic and robotic procedures. # 2012 European Association of Urology. Pulmonary metastasis as sole manifestation of relapse in previously treated localised prostate cancer: three exceptional case reports
Metastatic prostate cancer recurrence after definitive local therapy can occur in any tissue. Usually, the first affected site is the bone. Lung metastases without bone or lymph node involvement are extremely rare in patients with prostate cancer, and only a handful of cases are reported in the literature. In several other malignancies, such as breast cancer, sarcomas, colorectal cancer, and re...
متن کاملSystematic review of perioperative and quality-of-life outcomes following surgical management of localised renal cancer.
CONTEXT For the treatment of localised renal cell carcinoma (RCC), uncertainties remain over the perioperative and quality-of-life (QoL) outcomes for the many different surgical techniques and approaches of nephrectomy. Controversy also remains on whether newer minimally invasive nephron-sparing interventions offer better QoL and perioperative outcomes, and whether adrenalectomy and lymphadenec...
متن کاملSystematic review of oncological outcomes following surgical management of localised renal cancer.
CONTEXT Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 2-3% of adult malignancies. There remain uncertainties over the oncological outcomes for the surgical management of localised RCC. OBJECTIVE Systematically review relevant literature comparing oncological outcomes of surgical management of localised RCC (T1-2N0M0). EVIDENCE ACQUISITION Relevant databases including Medline, Embase, and the Coch...
متن کاملMorphometric profile of the localised renal tumors managed either by open or robot-assisted nephron-sparing surgery: the impact of scoring systems on the decision making process
BACKGROUND Nephrometric scoring systems aim to improve the manner in which tumoral complexity is measured and reported. Each system provides a way to objectively measure specific tumor features that influence technical feasibility. In this study we aimed to determine how nephrometric scoring systems tailored our approach to the surgical treatment of localised renal masses. METHODS Charts of t...
متن کاملPrime Incision and Modified Moving Window: A Minimally Invasive Access for Breast Cancer Surgical Treatment
BACKGROUND Conservative surgical treatment has been the treatment of choice for early breast cancer. It allows feasible oncological treatment with a satisfactory cosmetic approach and fast recovery. However, in some cases mastectomy is necessary. This study proposes a surgical approach with only one surgical access through the same incision, which is in line with precepts mentioned abov...
